Logan Roy or Andy Warhol? What type of CEO are you?
From Brian Chesky (Airbnb)
On paper, I’m a businessperson, but what I’m really doing is designing a company. I think you need that distinction, because in entrepreneurship, as in design, you have to remain curious to keep your mind open to the next big idea.
What I think
Building (a company) , by nature, suggests a linear process. One brick on top of another. In this context, construction is seen as progress, while demolition represents failure or setback.
Designing (a company) , on the other hand, embodies the essence of the creative process. It involves drawing, revising, and starting from scratch when necessary. It implies the freedom to explore, adapt, and innovate.
Perhaps it’s just semantics, but perception shapes reality, right?
The longer you act as a designer of your company, the lighter your organization will become.
After all, paper is lighter than cement.
