On past experiences:
I’ve just finished listening to the conversation between Tim Ferriss and Guy Laliberté, the founder of Cirque du Soleil, and it struck me how deeply we are the outcome of our past experiences.
Guy was raised in a family of musicians, taught to bring smiles with music, and decided at ages 8-10 to become a traveler, going independent at 14 (“I want to earn for myself”), traveling and busking around the world since his early years.
When he describes his life journey, you see how over time all the dots connect into a single, solid outcome — the most outstanding show ever created.
Incredible!
Lessons learned:
Our experiences shape a unique mental DNA that defines who we are. You are uniquely you, and no one can outdo you at being… you. However, it gets complicated when we attempt to imitate others, though our DNA is completely different (like those in the ‘Elon tribe’ who follow him unquestioningly). In that space, we’re in stiff competition with thousands.
" Every moment in business happens only once. The next Bill Gates will not build an operating system. The next Larry Page or Sergey Brin won’t make a search engine. And the next Mark Zuckerberg won’t create a social network. If you are copying these guys, you aren’t learning from them. " — Peter Thiel, Zero to One
